  • Knees to Chest Post/Apanasana - To begin, sit on the floor and keep your spine straight with your legs stretched outward in front of you.
  1. Bend your left knee outward and tuck your heel toward your groin.
  2. Bend your right leg and bring it forward so your knee is pointing at the ceiling.
  3. Next turn the left side of your body to the right making sure your chest is centered over your right.
  4. Slowly grab your right foot using both hands and lower your torso down to your right thigh.
  5. Make sure to breath and keep your head and spine inline with one another.
  6. Try to move a little at a time by sliding your right heel on the floor or yoga mat all while keeping hold of your foot. Keep moving until you come to a point where it's no longer possible to keep your torso on your thigh.
  7. Remember to move slowly and once you reach your goal position, hold it and take three to eight breaths.
  8. Release by placing your hands on your yoga mat or floor and very slowly roll your spine to a sitting position. Repeat using your right knee.
  • Canoe Bow - Start this exercise by lying on your belly while you rest your forehead on the floor.
  1. Bend both knees so the bottom of each foot is facing the ceiling.
  2. Reach back and grab the outside of your ankles one at a time and try and keep your buttocks firm. You should begin to feel your pelvic area pressing into the floor. If you are new to the Canoe Bow, only hold one ankle at a time.
  3. Hold this position for a few seconds and keep breathing.
  4. While breathing, try and press your pelvic area to the floor while lifting your head, torso, and thighs as high as is comfortable without any pain. Stay in this position for three to eight breaths.
  5. Release by squeezing your buttocks while slowly lowering your thighs to the floor. Once your thighs have reached the floor, let go of your feet and lower your torso and head. Before you bring your feet down, swing your calves from side to side for three to six breaths and then lower feet to floor or yoga mat.
  • Knees to Chest - Begin this yoga exercise for gas relief by lying on your back with your legs stretched out in front of you.
  1. Next, hug your knees to your chest and breath deeply and slowly.
  2. Hold your right knee to your chest and extend the left leg to the floor making sure to keep your foot flexed.
  3. Every time you exhale, try hugging your right knee a little closer to your chest. Continue this for three to eight breaths and then repeat with the opposite knee and leg.
  4. Release by lowering your feet to the floor keeping your knees bent. For the best benefit, as your lower your feet to the floor massage your abdominal muscles with your fingertips gently.
